Fun Way to Stay Healthy for Desktop Dweebs

Do you check your mail compulsively every five minutes? Does your life circle around your laptop? Hours of gaming or writing source code have you glued to the desk? If your answers to all the above questions is ‘yes’, we hate to be the ones to break it to you, but you may be a desktop dweeb. Why is that a bad thing? Because health usually isn’t priority or easy for desktop dweebs. So how does one stay fit despite long hours of typing, and hunching over a tiny little desk? Here are HealthMeUp’s top four tips to staying fit even when chained to your desk...

Give it a break:
Understand that you are not superman (or a superwoman). And to add to it, it may do your eyes a whole lot of good too. Stroll around your office corridor once in a while and meet your friends. Don’t go all out and start partying bang in the middle of a work dat, but walk up to any colleagues you need to chat with, get your own bottle of water, and give yourself a break from the desk at regular intervals. Your atrophying leg muscles will thank you for it!
Ditch the lift and take the stairs:
Believe us when we say this – the taller your office building, the better this game gets! Watch your stamina improve while you race your co-worker to the floor you need to get to. Even if it entails pausing a bit to get your breath back before walking into the meeting, think about all those calories you’ll burn in the process. Make sure you make this your routine and watch those inches melt away.
Resist eating in between meal times:
Kick the temptation to binge on oily foods in between meals. Opt for healthier snacks like fresh fruits, cereals, or almonds. They say health is a community, and we suggest you work on this as a team too. Health experts suggest the trick lies in dealing with the peak of your cravings, which lasts for only ten to fifteen minutes. Go for other options – talk to a co-worker or make that phone-call you have been putting off all day! Try it. It works!
Respect your limits:
Hey, laptop athlete, like a runner or swimmer you have your limits too. So, when you feel tired, try and respect it! Rest. Walk during your lunch break. Nothing over the top. For instance, you can take a stroll till the end of the road after you are done eating.
There you go. Follow these simple and easy fitness tips and you’ll never feel unhealthy because of long working hours again. We wish you a great ‘work out’ day!
