Eating Out - The Healthy Way

No matter how strict your diet is, you may find yourself eating out at times - out of choice or social obligation. Either way, it’s at times like this that you have to make sure all your hard work isn’t negated by one sinful meal. To do so we’ve devised a simple bunch of rules that should cover your ass from the big bad world of outside dining.

Know your enemy
It is imperative you fully understand the restaurant you’re about to visit. Find out the kind of cuisine they serve because most Indian food is sinful as hell, thanks to all the rich gravies and whatnot. Make sure the restaurant you’re visiting caters to a healthy palette because you don’t want to be stuck in a place that doesn’t.

Fill yourself up with the healthy stuff
If it isn’t your day and you find yourself in a place that has nothing healthy on the menu, there’s no need to starve yourself. Snacking smart in a situation like this will prove to be a life saver. Pretty much any restaurant on the planet can hook you up with a basic green salad consisting of cucumber, carrot, beet, broccoli and radish. Wash it down with tons of water so you end up eating less.

Don’t feel shy
Whenever you don’t understand something on the menu don’t feel shy to ask the waiter for help; it doesn’t make you sound stupid. Also make sure you remind him to go easy on the oil/butter whenever necessary. Sure your friends may stare at you or call you a “drama queen” but you know it’s worth it in the long run.

Everything from Subway isn’t healthy
Most people I know are under the impression that anything and everything from Subway is healthy. Thanks to this veil of denial, I see them gulfing down a double cheese Italian BMT with reckless abandon. This of course is just plain stupid. If you choose to eat at Subway, avoid the dressings altogether, choose only whole wheat bread and go in for a slim meat like turkey or tuna.

Avoid buffets like the plague
Buffets are evil not only because of the insane quantity of food they offer, but because of the whole “I have to eat my weight because of the price” mentality most people have. Think of it for a second; if you pay around a grand for a buffet are you going to eat like a sparrow or wolf down the food like there’s no tomorrow? Yeah, thought so.
