Healthy Dessert Ideas


No matter how disciplined we are, sometimes the best of us can cave in to sweet temptations and succumb to desserts and chocolates. But gone are the days where your only choices were 800 calorie desserts – say hello to your new best friends: The Low Calorie Desserts. Not only are these desserts weight-friendly options for that something sweet after a meal, they make wonderful evening snacks. And here are some of Health Me Up’s low calorie dessert ideas:

Figs or Pears in Honey and Cinnamon
Ingredients: 500 gms fresh figs, 500 ml dessert wine, 3 tbsp honey, 2 cinnamon sticks, vanilla essence
Method: Lightly toss the figs in a non-stick pan. Add the cinnamon sticks, honey and vanilla essence. Let the mixture cool so that it is just warm, pour the wine and serve with low-cal vanilla ice cream if desired. You can replace the figs with pears too.

Fruits in Chocolate SauceCut up any seasonal fruits like mangoes, litchees, melons or berries, pour some dark chocolate sauce and garnish with brown sugar if you want. A bowl of this is enough to satiate your craving for something chocolate and something sweet

Berries with Low Cal Vanilla Ice CreamScoop up some vanilla ice cream and top it with crushed berries (raspberries, strawberries). Alternatively, you can use low fat whipped cream, crumbled cheese crackers and layer them alternately with the crushed berries and make trifle.

Affogato
Ingredients: 
A small cup frozen vanilla yogurt, 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional), a small shot of espresso, a pinch nutmeg powder (optional)
Method: Pour in the espresso and coffee liqueur to the bowl of frozen vanilla yogurt and sprinkle some nutmeg powder on it. Enjoy your easy, low-cal Affogato!

Peaches and YogurtPeaches or any other nectarines like plums, cherries, prunes or apricots go very well with plain yogurt. Simply mix the two and you get a yummy dessert! What’s more- even second and third helpings of it will not add to your waistline.

Whoever said that you cannot have your cake and eat it too, definitely had not heard about low calorie desserts! So next time, instead of sighing lustfully after that bavarian chocolate cake you simply cannot have, try out these yummy yet healthy dessert treats!
